Chapter Four
 

Trent called Carlos at Thunder Investigations

“Thunder Investigations,” this is Kim”

“Kim, its Trent. Is Carlos there?” He asked

“Oh, yeah. Hold on a sec,” Kim said

Trent heard shuffling then Carlos picked up

“Hey buddy”, Carlos asked

“Hey, I need to see if you can meet me outside of Alex office?” Trent asked

“Sure. What’s up?” He asked

“Alex is taking Christina in to talk with a judge,” Trent explained. “ She is going to file a restraining order against this guy.”

“So he made bail?” Carlos said

“Yeah. And he was outside the dojo just now”, Trent said

“Did Christina see him?” Carlos asked

“No. I do not want her to know. She is upset enough.”

“How did he find out where she was?” Carlos asked

“I’m not sure but I plan on paying him a visit”, Trent said with anger in his voice

“What time do you want me there?”

“Can you make it now?”

“I am on my way,” Carlos said

“Thanks buddy”, Trent said and hung up

His mind was reeling. How did Brody find her? “After the meeting at the courthouse he was going to leave Christina with Walker and Alex and he was going to have some words with him

“Trent?”

He turned to see Christina looking at him. She was dressed in a pair of lose, black slacks and a long matching jacket that touched below her knees and a white blouse underneath

“Hey,” he said going over and pulling in her arms. He held her tighter when he felt her shivering

“Cold?” He asked

She just nodded. He knew she was scared

“Everything is going to be fine”, he told her. Then he kissed her tenderly

“I know. Just keep doing that and I’ll feel much better”, she said

“Yes, ma’am”, ha said and bent his head down and kissed her again

“Better?” He asked

“Yes. Thank you”, she said. “Did you reach Carlos?”

“Yes. He is going to meet us at the courthouse.”

“Is there something wrong?” She asked

“No. Why?”

“Well, you asked Carlos to meet you there”, she said

“I just don’t want any surprises that’s all,” he said. “Now give me two seconds to change and we’ll go.”

He went up to the loft before she could say anything. Something did not feel right. She sensed that Trent was not telling her something.

She walked over to the window and looked out. It was a beautiful day. She prayed that she did not lose her nerve once they arrived at the courthouse. Keith was her past and she had to protect herself from him.

“Ready?”

She turned to see that he had changed in to a pair of jeans and he had on a white T-shirt with a blue sweater over it

“Yes. You look very handsome,” she said smiling at him

“Well thank you ma’am. And you as always take my breath away.” He placed a finger under her chin and kissed her. It was sweet, yet full of passion.

“You keep doing that and we’ll never get there,” she said

“What can I say? I am in love,” he said putting his arm around her and leading her out the door. He looked around and out of the corner of his eye, he could see that Keith was no longer there. If he followed them, he would be ready.

“Are you all right?” She asked him

“Just fine,” he said opening the door for her

He got in the vette and headed for the courthouse. Christina was quiet. He figured she was just nervous. Within ten minutes Trent pulled up and parked next to Carlos Durango

“Hey, buddy. Thanks for coming”, Trent said

“No problem,” Carlos said smiling at Christina. “My best friend is a lucky man,” Carlos thought to himself

“How are you doing Christina?” Carlos asked and he opened the door

“Fine,” she said. “I see I have another gentleman on my hands.”

“Who him?” Trent said

Carlos just shrugged

Trent put his arm around Christina and they walked up the steps and headed for Alex office on the second floor

“Alex?” Trent called. She was down the hall talking to Walker

“Hello. I’m glad you could make it,” she said hugging Christina

“Can we do this before I lose my nerve?” She asked

“You’ll do fine,” Alex said. “Come-on. The judge is waiting in his office

Christina went in to Trent's arms and hugged him tightly

“I’ll be right out here,” he said and not caring who was watching he kissed her with all the love, he had

Alex smiled at them. It was beautiful. Their love was going to get them through this. Alex and Christina walked away leaving Trent staring after her. When he finally turned away, he received grins from Walker and Carlos

“What?” He said

“I did not say anything, “ Walker said

“Me neither,” Carlos said

“All right,” Trent said. “Let’s hear it.”

“Hear what?” They asked

“Whatever it is that is you two need to say.” Trent said

“Trent, you are in love with Christina,” Carlos said. “What is there to say to that?”

“You knew?” He asked

“Well, that kiss just now was his first clue”, Walker said

“No. I told you I knew,” Carlos said. “I am happy for you buddy.”

“Thank you Carlos,” Trent said

“Now about Brody,” Carlos said

“Yeah. Walker he was outside of the dojo this morning," Trent said

“Did Christina see him?” Walker asked

“No,” Trent said. And I don’t want her to know he was out there”, Trent said

“How do you think he found out Walker?” Carlos asked

“I don’t know,” said Walker. “When was it?”

“Right around two,” Trent explained. “We were talking to Alex...

It came to him then. He and Walker exchanged a look

“He followed Alex,” Trent said

That did not sit well with Walker

“Yes,” Walker said. “Probably from here”.

“Walker you want me to trail this guy?” Carlos asked

“No,” Walker said. “Once the restraining order is signed it will change things.”

“I doubt it,” Trent said angrily. “Walker I am going to pay him a visit.”

“That’s not a good idea, Trent,” Walker said

“I have to do something,” Trent said. “I am not going to let him stalk her.”

“Well, be careful”, Walker told him

“You want my help?” Carlos asked

“Yeah. You go along and keep me from killing the bastard,” Trent said

“Right,” Carlos said knowing he was serious

“Will you stay with her Walker?” Trent asked

“Yes. She can stay here at the courthouse,” Walker said

“What are you going to tell her?” Carlos asked

Trent thought about it. He knew it would upset her if she knew he was confronting this guy. But he promised her that he would protect her and he would, no matter what

“I’ll tell her that I have to follow a lead with you on this case,” Trent said feeling bad already knowing he was going to lie to her

“All right,” Carlos said knowing it was hard on him

“You two will get through this Trent,” Walker said

“I know,” Trent said. “Thanks Walker”.

“Come-on buddy”, Carlos said. “I’ll buy you a cup of coffee.”

Trent laughed at his friend and they walk over to the coffee machine

“Thank you for meeting with us Judge Travis,” Alex said as they sat across from him

“Not a problem counselor,” he said looking at Christina

“You are Miss. Jade?”

“Yes,” Christina said quietly

“Why don’t you tell me why you are here today?” He asked

Christina grew nervous. Not knowing where to start

“I.... I am scared”, she said shakily

“Of this Mr. Brody?” He asked looking though the file

“Yes”

“How long were you with him?” He asked

“Two years,” she said

“And now you are ready to leave him?” He asked

“Yes. He beat me the other night and Miss. Cahill sent someone to help. After that I knew I never wanted to go back.”

“Have you tried to leave him before?’

“Yes. And he almost killed me”; she said a tear streaming down her cheek. Alex put a comforting arm around her

“Judge Travis, I know you go over cases like this all the time,” Alex said. “But Mr. Brody was forcing her to stay with him. She could not get away.”

“I can see she has been through a lot,” the judge said. “ And I trust that she is staying at the Hope center?”

“Actually, no”, Alex said. “She feared that he would find her there so she is staying with Trent Malloy.”

They waited to hear his reaction. He looked a little skeptical. Then he smiled

“Thunder’s boy?” He asked

“Yes. You know him?” Alex asked

“His father was a good man,” he said

“Yes. He was”, said Alex

“Trent is a Private Investigator. Right?” He asked

“Yes. And he has helped a lot of woman at the shelter”, Alex said

“ I will have to say hello to him. Is he here?”

“Yes,’ Christina said feeling a little better. “ He’s outside.”

“I am going to sign this,” the judge said. “And if Mr. Brody violates it he will go to jail.’

“Thank you,” Christina said

“You’re very welcome”. Now Alex, as her lawyer, you sign here. And Miss. Jade signs below it.”

After they had signed, he placed it in his folder

“I will have these filed and served to Mr. Brody right away.”

“Thank you so much,” Alex said

“Let me walk you out”, he said and they went out and found Trent and Carlos waiting in front of Alex office.

“Trenton, how are you doing?” He asked extending his hand

Trent recognized him right away and accepted his hand

“Warren, it’s good to see you,” Trent said

“Miss. Cahill tells me that you are helping Miss. Jade out,” he said

Trent put his arm around Christina

“Yes,” Trent said

“Well, your father would be so proud of all the good you are doing”, the judge said

“Thank you,” Trent said

The judge shook his hand one more time before going back in to his office. Trent pulled Christina in his arms and just held her for a few seconds

“Are you all right?” He asked

“Yes. I am now,” she said

“He signed the papers,” Alex told Trent

“Good,” he said. Then he pulled away and framed her face in his hands. “Christina, I have to go help Carlos out...”

She went pale and he pulled her back in his arms

“When?” She asked

“Right now, but it won’t take long,” he said. “Walker and Alex will take you to CD’s.”

“Let me go with you”, she said as she clung to him. They idea of being apart from him was unbearable and she started shaking

“Well wait in my office,” Alex said wanting to leave them alone

Trent nodded at them and turned back to Christina

“I can not take you with me,” Trent said. “Walker will take care of you.”

“No. I don’t want you to leave me,” she said. “Please! Don’t leave me!”

Trent considering not going. He did not count on upsetting her this much, but then he had an image of Brody sitting outside his place

“Baby, I don’t want to upset you,” he said. “But I have to do this.”

“Why?” She asked and pulled away from him tearing at his heart

“It’s what I do;” he said and reached for her. She jerked away

“Go then”, she said and started running down the hall

“Christina!”

Carlos and Alex came back out when they heard Trent yelling

“What’s wrong?” Alex asked

“She is upset,” Trent said.

“I’ll go after her,” Alex said

“Thanks”, Trent said

“Maybe you shouldn’t do this,” Carlos said

“No. Carlos if I don’t that hurt will never go out of her eyes,” Trent said

Carlos just lowered his head. He knew Trent was right

“I’ll follow you in the Durango,” Carlos said

Trent looked down the hall where Christina had disappeared. He was torn

“Come-on buddy,” Carlos said. “She’ll be fine.”

Trent followed Carlos out and Alex went down the hall to find Christina sitting on the courthouse steps

“Christina,” Alex said sitting down beside her. “What’s wrong?”

“He’s leaving,” Christina said lifting her head to Alex

“Oh, well, I am sure it was for something important”, Alex said

“He...said he would never hurt me,” Christina cried lowering her head

“Trent would never hurt you Christina,” Alex said trying her best to reassure her

“Being away from him hurts,” she said sadly

“I’m sure he won’t be long,” Alex said. “Why don’t you go with Walker and I to CD’s”?

“Thank you Alex, but I don’t want to be a burden to you,” Christina said

“You could never be a burden to anyone Christina,” Alex said

“Thank you. I will be fine,” Christina said trying to smile

“Are you sure?” Alex asked. “At least let me drive you....”

“No!” Christina said quickly, not wanting Alex to be able to tell Trent where she was going. “I will make it ok.”

Christina left for the d It was almost dark when she had parted company with Alex and when she arrived at the dojo it was closed up, completely black outside, with the exception of the street light. She went inside and went up to the loft and hastily packed her belongings, then she looked around the place and stifled a sob. She remembered their night of lovemaking and every word he had said to her. She had enough memories that would be engraved forever in her heart. She looked around wanting to remember every detail. Then she left, carefully locking the door behind her and walked aimlessly, not having a particular place to go. She was cold and hungry. Most of all she missed Trent's arms around her. She quickly put him out of her mind. And as much as she did not want to admit it, she needed help, so she went to see Jennifer who was surprised to see her standing at her front door.

“Chris!” Oh, honey what happened?” Jen asked seeing her crying

“Trent....left,” Chris cried. “I don’t know where else to go.”

“What?” Jen asked confused as she led Christina to the couch

“Please, Just let me stay here,” Chris cried. “I have no where else to go.”

Christina was trying so hard to hold it together but being away from him was tearing her up. Jen hugged her best friend. She knew without a doubt that Trent would never leave her, and she was determined to resolve this misunderstanding

“Of course you can stay here,” Jen said. “For as long as you like. But let me call Trent so he’ll know you are safe”, Jen said reaching for the phone

“No! Jen, please! I just want to forget everything,” Chris said shakily

“Chris, you can’t forget Trent and you know it,” Jen said

Christina knew she was right and she lowered her head and wept Jen wrapped her arms around her friend trying to sooth her.

“I have to Jen,” Chris cried. “I Should call Keith and just....” What?” Jen cried “Chris, no! Don’t talk like that.”

“I can apologize...”“

“No! Never!” Jen cried and she grabbed the phone from Chris. “I won’t let you go back to him—ever!”

“But....” I have nothing,” Chris cried letting her friend hug her again

“Yes, you have me”, Jen said. “And I will never let him hurt you

Meanwhile, Trent and Carlos had just arrived at Brody’s and went up the walk to the front door. There were no guards around this time. Trent did not even knock. He kicked door in, surprising Carlos.

“Brody! I know you are here,” Trent yelled

“Well, well, if it isn’t the hero of the day”, Keith mocked

Trent went over and gripped Keith by the shirt and hoisted him up off his feet

“I am here to warn you only once," Trent said with anger in his voice.” You stay away from Christina.”

“She is my woman!” Keith bellowed.

Trent slammed him in to the wall. It would be so easy for him to kill this guy

“No, she is not, Trent said

“So you think that she is yours just cause you saved her ass?” Keith said

“No, she belongs to no one”, Trent said dropping Brody

“No, your wrong pretty boy. She is mine in every way.”

Trent let his anger take over and he pounded in to the guy. Punch, kick, punch, punch, punch. It was all a blur. He had never felt such rage

“Trent! That is enough, Trent! Trent! Stop!” Carlos pulled him off, Trent looked at him, and his eyes focused. “Come-on he is not worth it.”

“He’s crazy,” Keith said trying to catch his breath

“You’ve been warned,” Trent said

They went outside and Trent tried to calm his anger

“Thanks for pulling me off him”, Trent said

“Well, it is not as if I did not enjoy seeing the guy being taken down a peg or two,” Carlos said. “But it’s not what Christina would want.”

“I know,” Trent said. “Thanks buddy, I’m heading back home.”

Inside the house, Keith was seething. “How dare that guy show up at my place and threaten me.” Keith barked aloud to himself. He went over to the phone and dialed a friends number.

“Lance, it’s Keith”

“I thought you were in the slammer,” Lance said

“I made bail,” Keith said. “Listen I need to hire some guys for a job”.

“What kind of job?”

“For ten grand does it really matter?” Keith asked

“Ten grand?” Lance said. “Come-on, Keith, what is it?”

“Killing that bastard Malloy,” Keith said

“Who the hell is Malloy?”

“The guy that took Christina away,” Keith said

“You mean the one that beat you to a pulp the other night?” Lance asked

“Are you going to get some men together or not?” Keith asked getting angry

“All right,” Lance said. “It’s going to take some time.”

“I have some investments I need t take care of,” Keith informed him. “I will contact you in a few weeks.”

Keith slammed down the telephone and thought about what his next move would be. He knew he had to get her back; however he was patient. He wanted her to get comfortable with her new life and when she least expected it he would snatch it all away.

Back at the courthouse, Trent discovered Alex had gone for the day so he called her up

“No, Trent. I’m sorry but she said she wanted to be alone”, Alex said. “I had no idea she wasn’t going back to your place

“Thanks Alex,” Trent said. “I’m sure she is fine.” He hung up and went back to the dojo expecting to find Christina there. He felt as though he had been punched in the gut when he found all her things gone. “Why would she leave me? He asked himself. He was stunned. He knew she was upset but he never realized that she was this distraught. Now she was out there all alone

He dialed Alex back. “Alex, its Trent. No. She isn’t here.”

“I’ll have Walker start a search,” Alex said.

“Thanks Alex,” Trent said

“Sure. I’ll call you when I get to the courthouse;” Alex said and hung up. She got in her car and headed back to the courthouse to search for Christina

Since Trent could find no clues To Christina’s whereabouts in the dojo, he decided to look for her by driving the most likely route she would have walked from the courthouse to the dojo. But just as he was about to leave, the phone rang

“Thunder Karate,” Trent said pleasantly trying to keep the stress out of his voice

“Trent, its Jen”

“Jen,” Trent said. “How are you?”

“I’m fine, Trent. Chris is here and she is very upset”, Jen said

Relief ran through Trent, knowing she was at least safe

“Thanks Jen,” Trent said. “I’ll be right there.”“ Trent, I am really worried,” Jen said. “I Don’t know what happened, but she is scaring me...talking about going back to Keith.”

Trent felt as if he would be sick. “What?” He said. “Jen, please keep her there. I am on my way,” Trent said

“I will Trent,” Jen said. “Please hurry! She will not talk to me, she just cries. I know she loves you and I am sure this can all be worked out.”

“Don’t worry Jen!” Trent said. “I’ll be there in ten.”

He hung up and called Alex to let her know Chris was all right then he headed for Jennifer’s. When Christina saw Trent, she quickly ran past him, catching him by surprise

“Christina!” He cried and ran after her catching her gently by the arm turning her to face him. “Please, don’t do this”, he pleaded

“Just let me go!” She cried. “Forget Me.” she tried to pull free but he would not let her. He framed her face with his hands so she would look at him. So, she could see the anguish on his face.

“I could never forget you!” He cried. “I love you.”

“No! She cried pulling away and trying to run again. He stepped in front of her and she lost control and sank to her knees. “It...can...never happen, Trent,” she cried. “Please, just walk away.”

He pulled her in his arms and held her---letting her feel how much he loved her. She wanted to pull back, but when he touched her she gave in and wrapped her arms around him. “I’m sorry,” she cried as he held her tenderly

“No. I am the one who is sorry,” he said holding her close. “I should never have left you alone. And I never will again”, he said kissing her gently

“No, I shouldn’t have gotten upset”, She cried. “You cannot stop your work because of me, Trent.”

Guilt washed over him again. He wanted to tell her where he went but when she just smiled at him, he forgot everything but the feel of her arms around him

“Can we start over?” He asked caressing her cheek

“Yes, let’s go home,” she said giving him a knowing look

They returned to the dojo and spent the entire evening making love. And for several weeks, they never parted. Always at one another's side. Trent took her to meet his family. Katie loved her and welcomed her with open arms. Christina had never been so at peace. So happy. Then, one fateful night, it was all destroyed.
 
 

Six weeks later...
 
 

Trent and Christina were returning home from an evening out with friends. They were lost in one another. Completely impassioned.

Trent looked at Christina with all the love he could possibly feel shining in his eyes. She looked at him the same way and he swept her up in his arms and kissed her deeply and passionately. He had the keys in his hand and was trying to figure out how to open the door of the dojo and still carry Christina in his arms

“Here let me,” Chris said softly and Trent handed her the keys

“Trivette's new girlfriend seems really nice,” Chris said opening the door, and he

carried her inside

“They always are,” Trent said looking deeply her eyes and this time when they kissed it ignited and the fire within them to a new height and Trent gently lowered them both to the mats, covering her body with his. Their passion was intense, their love for each other consuming. He kissed her everywhere—her cheeks, forehead, lips, then moved down to her neck, dropping kisses everywhere-and hearing her moan with delight pleased him more than she could ever know

“I want you so badly I ache.” Trent breathed against her neck

“Then take me, Trent, please! “ Christina whispered. “Love me.”

“Are you sure? You said you weren’t feeling well...”

“Trent, my stomach was a little upset,” she said kissing him on the cheek, then nibbling at his ear. “I’m fine.”

He smiled at her—taking her breath away. Then he shoved her jacket off and started unbuttoning her blouse, kissing her every time a button was undone, slowly working his way down. It was driving her crazy with desire and he wanted her to enjoy every moment of it. He would bring her pleasure like she had never felt before.

Just then, the doors to the dojo smashed and three men burst in along with Keith. When Keith saw her on the floor with Trent and her blouse undone, he flew into a rage

“Kill that bastard!” Keith ordered to the men and they surrounded Trent and Christina. Trent pushed her protectively behind him

“You aren’t getting her Brody!” Trent said angrily. “So just walk out of here—while you still can.”

“I wouldn’t be making threats,” Keith said leveling his gun toward Trent

“No!” Christina cried. “Please....don’t!”

Trent pushed Christina back and landed a sidekick on one man’s knee sending him to the floor. The second man came at Trent and ended up facing Trent's back to the knuckle punch to the nose breaking it, followed by Trent's low block to the man’s groin taking him out of commission. The third man was angered by all this and really came at Trent hard—catching Trent off balance from fighting the other two men. He knocked Trent down and to his knees

“TRENT!” Christina screamed. She was so scared for him that she did not see Keith until he had a tight hold on her. “No!” She cried as he grabbed her roughly by the hair

Trent quickly sprang to his feet and executed a brilliant spinning back kick and nailed the third man in the chest sending him backward and unconscious

“That’s enough!” Keith yelled. Trent turned and started for Brody but he placed a gun to Christina’s head making Trent stop

“Let her go!” Trent warned.

“No, I told you she is my property!” Keith yelled grasping her tightly by the hair. He looked down at her lose blouse and at Trent and leveled his gun. “I should blow your ass away right now for touching her.”

“No!” Christina cried. “Please....don’t!”

“That’s so touching darlin”, Keith seethed in her ear. “Pleading for your lover’s life.”

Keith smacked her across the face, knocking her to the floor

“You son of....” Trent went for him but Keith put the gun at Christina’s head. “Not another step or I will kill her.”

Trent stopped. Frozen with fear

“You are going to pay for touching her,” Trent said between clenched teeth. “This I promise you

“No, it is you who will pay for thinking you could put your hands on her”, Keith said pulling Christina up. “Or shall I say, she will pay for it. Now, she is coming with me.”

“No!” Trent said

“She comes with me or you die,” Keith said and he pointed the gun at Trent

“No!” Christina cried. “Keith...I am sorry. Please, I will do whatever you say—just do not hurt him. Please!” She pleaded looking at Trent with tears in her eyes

“No, Chris”, Trent cried. “I won’t let him take you,” he said taking a step closer

“You take one more step and its goodbye. You’ll never see her again,” Keith said with an evil grin that made Treat's blood boil

“Please... Remember that I love you...” Her voice trailed off as Keith tightened his hold on her. Her tears were flowing and the fear in her eyes showed as he led her roughly out the door and into his car. Then he sped off

Trent ran outside and sank to his knees in the street. “Christina!” He cried. “No! I will find you- I swear it!” He cried out and lowered his head in anguish. He could not believe it. Just minutes ago he was in her arms getting ready to make love to her. Now She was with that mad man. His anger took over and he vowed that he would not give up until he found her. And he made a promise to himself that Brody would not be left alive when he was through with him

He slowly got to his feet and went in and called Carlos and Walker
